About

Born in Karachi, Pakistan to parents who had migrated from India and raised me in Saudi Arabia, and now living in Houston, I truly feel like someone from all over the world. Growing up in a uniquely suppressed environment (Saudi Arabia in the eighties) I found my voice in playwriting. My love of theatre springs from the level of engagement this medium provides and demands.

My company Tee Zee Productions explores and promotes local artistic and creative talent. In the utter absence of a platform for South Asian performing artists and writers, we strive to work as an incubator for the new and upcoming actors, directors, stage, and managers of BIPOC origin.

It is our mission to explore the local Houstonian talent of BIPOC origin. This mission has affected us heavily, as any show without renowned actors and celebrities is extremely hard to sell. We do end up losing sponsorships and audiences due to this reason. We have suffered but we have not given up. In fact, we are experimenting with making our first cross-disciplinary play in February 2022.

My latest play "Berbardians" was performed at Midtown MATCH in Houston and had all three shows sold out. It was an adaption of three different Shakespearean tragedies, where reimagined characters Hamlet, Othello, and Macbeth arrive in the US on various immigrant visas.

My upcoming production is a live commission project as part of Performing Arts Houston's 2022/2023 New/Now: The Houston Artist Commissioning Project. It is called, "And The Clay Pot Speaketh," which retells a South Asian folktale about the love story of Sohni and Mahiwal from Punjab. The tragic romance will be told through musical pantomime with narration, supported by South Asian poetry and folk music.
