About
I paint large because I want the work to have a physical presence. I want people to spend time with it, move through it, and discover new details as they engage with the surface. The paintings are driven by rhythm, texture, tension, and atmosphere rather than representation.
Before turning my focus to painting, I spent years documenting music culture as a photographer. I photographed musicians, live performances, and life behind the scenes, paying as much attention to the atmosphere surrounding the moment as the moment itself. Those experiences continue to shape the way I approach the work today. What I once observed through a camera, I now build through paint.
Most paintings begin without a fixed outcome. I work through layering, gesture, revision, and response, allowing each piece to develop over time. Some passages are built up, others are removed. The process is less about executing a plan and more about paying attention to what the work needs as it evolves.
For me, abstraction is a way of creating atmosphere. It gives me the freedom to work beyond a specific subject while holding onto the energy, tension, and sense of presence that first drew me to making images.
