Rona Lesser, artist

About

Rona Lesser has been a working artist and art educator in Houston for over 30 years.  She is originally from N.Y, but has mostly lived in Texas since 1961.  She has had work in many juried exhibits, both in Houston and in N.Y., Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, and Springfield,Missouri.  She has taught afterschool art classes for children and the summer arts workshop at the Blaffer Art Museum and loves teaching both children and adults.  She works mostly in watercolor and acrylic, with the majority of the subjects being figure or landscape.  Since 2015 she has had a studio at Sawyer Yards.  She is on the national board of the National Women's Caucus for Art and is an active  member of local arts organizations.

She states:  For me, creating art is a meditative and a quiet time.  I love painting outdoors, and from a live model.  I also work from photos I take of places I have been. When painting a live model, I try and capture a mood of  the pose and expression.  I want to share the spirit of nature and the natural beauty of the world that I see. Sometimes that can be found in places you least expect, like the wild spring flowers coming up in between urban sidewalks and curbs.  The artist's eye can help the viewer find a new perspective to the world around us, and enrich our spirits.
